Wood - Organic Cafe

A friendly neighborhood burger joint, Wood Cafe, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They serve their meals made from farm fresh ingredients from local farmers and pride themselves for using natural meats too. Casual and dog friendly with the cute outdoor patio, enjoy a weekend brunch or a casual meal mid-week.

I ordered the brown rice burger without the bun, on a bed of lettuce. It's soy-free and gluten-free, made entirely of brown rice and veggies. It was flavorful but a tad bit dry which the salad dressing compensated for. The Wild Mushroom Omlete was delicious, not too heavy but filling after a Sunday morning hike.

  • On one of my many drives down Venice Blvd, this awesome little joint caught my eye and one Sunday morning, I finally made my way in. The Curious Palate - how much cuter could that name be? - is a farm-to-table establishment of the most creative dishes you can imagine!

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner (but only till 8pm) some menu items include the following:

    Pulled Pork: Niman Ranch pork w/onion confit, deglazed in a strawberry gastrique, served on a brioche bun w/bed of lettuce;
    The Florentine:
Goat cheese, marinated baby artichokes, roasted tomatoes, spinach, avocado, Moroccan olives on 5-grain with balasamic
Wasabi Shrimp: wild white shrimp, baby greens, grated daikon, scallions&Japanese pickles, w/a white miso dressing

The Royale Breakfast Omlette: w/Surchoix Gruyère cheese, Québec 4-year vintage cheddar&fresh mozzarella
  • On the corner of Sepulveda and Braddock (just south of Culver) stands a unpretentious, friendly, affordable and healthy eatery featuring vegan and vegetarian options while offering some real chicken and steak - hormones, nitrates and antibiotic free, of course - dishes so you can enjoy a meal with just about anyone.

Enjoy a vegan burrito or protein packed omelet for breakfast. For lunch, add a side salad or soup of the day when you order a salad, quesadilla or sandwich. The pizzas are a great option (they have gluten free options too!) and they deliver before 3pm!  All of their menu options are available with or without meat, tofu or gardein, and mozzarella or the dairy alternative, Daiya Cheese.

Notice below that the "Chicken Parmesan" is NOT battered and fried! :D
  • Cook time: 20 minutes | Serves: 2

A stir fry is an easy way to throw together some leftover for a simple meal. I had some steamed broccoli and brown rice on hand so I decided to throw them together with some cayenne and paprika.

    Ingredients

    • 8 oz Shiitake mushroom, sliced, stems removed
    • 2 cups broccoli florets
    • 2 cups cooked brown rice
    • 1/2 medium brown onion, sliced
    • salt to taste
    • dash cayenne pepper
    Instructions
    1. Start by sauteing onions. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until tender. Season with salt and cayenne.
    2. If you haven't steamed your broccoli yet, transfer onion/mushroom mix in bowl and cook broccoli in the same pan. Add just enough water for the broccoli to absorb and cover. Let steam for a couple of minutes.
    3. Add onion/mushroom mixture to broccoli and stir well.
    4. Add brown rice, stir and voila!
