Acid – Alkaline Food Chart

As a general rule of thumb, fruits and vegetables leave an alkaline residue on the body while animal products. legumes and grains leave an acidic residue on the body. Another daily habit of many people is drinking coffee which is very acidic!

Very Garlicy Herb & Saffron Shrimp

Inspired by a Spanish tapa, I ventured to use my beloved saffron in something other than paella. The Italian seasoning mix complements the saffron without overpowering it. I used spinach but feel free to experiment and throw in any other hardy green veggie for color, nutrition and texture!

Chicken Tikka Masala with Arora Creations

I decided to give Arora Creations’ Spice Mixes a try and decided to cook tikka masala… how can you go wrong, right? It was fairly simply, minus my many tears from chopping the onions. It was quite spicy, I’d say a 3 on a scale of 1-5 for curry but my fellow taster (huh hum…. the hubbs) didn’t break a sweat at all!

Protein Packed Pancakes with Strawberry Drizzle

Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook Time: 15 minutes | Serves: 3 (Yields approx 10 – 6″ Pancakes)

I use this pancake mix for a base in gluten free baking, but almost never use it on its own. A few days ago, I decided to experiment by adding some protein powder to balance out the carbs, even with the extra egg that I add to the instructions on the package. The cakes turned out nice and fluffy!

Trader Joe’s Allergen- Free Pancake Mix

This serious allergen free pancake&waffle mix makes a great base, not only for a variety of different pancakes but for other baking needs as well. The package has a recipe for coffee cake but I imagine you can use it for any other cake recipe as well!

Chicken & Guacamole on Brown Rice Tortilla

I’m so glad we have gluten-free alternatives such as this brown rice tortilla from Trader Joe’s. Because this tortilla should be kept in the fridge or freezer, it tends to get a little stiff. Before using, heat on the stove top for just a few minutes, or use the defrost function on your toaster oven.

Kale Vegetable Soup with Grilled Chicken

Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook Time: 10 minutes | Serves: 2-4

One of my favorite leafy veggies is kale! It’s good cooked or raw, sauteed or in a soup! There is room for some purply leafy goodness in this basic vegetable. I had some grilled chicken left from a previous meal so I threw it in the soup but you can definitely enjoy this soup with it as a side.
